Silver Tax Stamps

1941-1944

The silver tax stamps of 1941-1944 are basically identical to the "red" US documentary stamps of 1940-1958 and the "green" US stock transfer stamps of 1940-1952, with the exception of the inscriptions and the color.  These new US revenue stamps are all engraved, perforated 11 or perforated 12, watermarked USIR, and they are all printed in gray (varying shades).  As would seem appropriate for these US revenue stamps, these stamps, they all feature the portraits of former Secretaries of the Treasury.

These silver tax stamps were issued in 1941, 1942, and 1944.  During 1941 and 1942, the silver tax stamps were overprinted with "Series" and the current year date.  During 1944, the silver tax stamps were issued without the overprint, and those are shown in the images below.

Following the images, there will be a line indicating the year of issue, the overprint, and then a detail section with a brief description of the denominations issued during that year.  The description detail will appear ONLY ONCE.  Subsequent catalog detail listings will only contain the denomination and Scott catalog number for that year's issues.
