Issues of 1922-1928

Perforated definitive postage stamps of Estonia were introduced in 1922.  The period between 1922 and 1928 would also feature new, more modern looking pictorial definitive stamps and Estonia's first commemorative stamps.



The seven definitive stamps of Estonia shown above were issued between 1922 and 1923.  The stamps are typographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are imperforate.

The two common designs of these stamps feature a Weaver and a Blacksmith.

The Scott catalog attributes are as follows:

  • 00.50 M.  (1923 - Sc. #58) - Orange.
  • 01 M.  (1923 - Sc. #59) - Brown.
  • 02 M.  (1922 - Sc. #60) - Yellow Green.
  • 02.50 M.  (1922 - Sc. #61) - Claret.
  • 05 M.  (1922 - Sc. #62) - Rose.
  • 09 M.  (1923 - Sc. #63) - Red.
  • 10 M.  (1922 - Sc. #64) - Deep Blue.



The eleven definitive stamps of Estonia shown above were issued between 1922 and 1925.  The stamps are typographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are perforated 14.

  • 00.50 M.  (1923 - Sc. #65) - Orange.
  • 01 M.  (1923 - Sc. #66) - Brown.
  • 02 M.  (1922 - Sc. #67) - Yellow Green.
  • 02.50 M.  (1922 - Sc. #68) - Claret.
  • 03 M.  (1924 - Sc. #69) - Blue Green.
  • 05 M.  (1922 - Sc. #70) - Rose.
  • 09 M.  (1923 - Sc. #71) - Red.
  • 10 M.  (1922 - Sc. #72) - Deep Blue.
  • 12 M.  (1925 - Sc. #73) - Red.
  • 15 M.  (1925 - Sc. #74) - Plum.
  • 20 M.  (1925 - Sc. #75) - Ultramarine.



Perforated versions of the Viking Ship stamps of 1920 shown above were issued on June 8, 1922.  The stamps are perforated 14 x 13 1/2.

The Scott catalog attributes are as follows:

  • 15 M.  (1922 - Sc. #76) - Yellow Green & Violet.
  • 25 M.  (1922 - Sc. #77) - Ultramarine & Black Brown.



The two very high denomination pictorial definitive stamps of Estonia shown above were issued in 1923 and 1924.  The stamps are perforated 14 x 13 1/2

The paper of the 100 M. denomination has a lilac network, and the paper of the 300 M. denomination has a buff network.

The design of the two stamps features a map of Estonia.

The Scott catalog attributes are as follows:

  • 100 M.  (1923 - Sc. #78) - Olive Green & Blue.
  • 300 M.  (1924 - Sc. #79) - Brown & Blue.



The three high denomination pictorial definitive stamps of Estonia shown above were issued between 1924 and 1927.  The stamps are perforated 14 x 13 1/2

The paper of the 30 M. denomination has a blue network, the paper of the 40 M. denomination has a lilac network, and the paper of the 70 M. denomination has a rose network.

The design of the 30 M. and 70 M. denominations features the National Theater in Tallinn.  The design of the 40 M. denomination stamps features a Vanemuine Theater in Tartu.

  • 30 M.  (1924 - Sc. #81) - Violet & Black.
  • 40 M.  (1927 - Sc. #83) - Deep Blue & Olive Brown.
  • 70 M.  (1924 - Sc. #82) - Carmine Rose & Black.



The five definitive stamps of 1922-1925 shown above were overprinted  1918 / 24 / 11 / 1928 and revalued in 1928 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Independence.

The Scott catalog attributes are as follows:

  • 02 S.  (1928 - Sc. #84) - Yellow Green.
  • 05 S.  (1928 - Sc. #85) - Rose Red.
  • 10 S.  (1928 - Sc. #86) - Deep Blue.
  • 15 S.  (1928 - Sc. #87) - Plum.
  • 20 S.  (1928 - Sc. #88) - Ultramarine.

The 10 M. denomination definitive stamp of 1922 was re-issued, in gray, on July 6, 1928 to celebrate the Third Tallinn Philatelic Exhibition.

This stamp, printed in gray, was only sold at the philatelic exhibition.
