Polish Stamps

Definitives of 1919-1922

New definitive Polish stamps, created for use throughout the Republic of Poland, were issued in late January 1919.

These new definitive postage stamp denominations, shown on this page, featured five different designs, as follows:


  • 03 F. / H. - 15 F. / H. - Heraldic eagle of Poland.
  • 20 F. / H. - 50 F. / H. - Heraldic eagle of Poland with fasces.
  • 01 M. / K. - 02 M. / K. - Allegory of agriculture.
  • 02.50 M. / K. - 03 M. / K. - Allegory of peace.
  • 05 M. / K. - 20 M. / K. - Polish cavalryman.



The new definitive Polish stamps shown above were issued on January 27, 1919, continuing through 1920.  These stamps were issued for use in Northern Poland, and they are denominated in "F" (Fenigi) and "M" (Marka)

These new definitive stamps were printed on regular, wove or ribbed paper, and they were issued both imperforate and perforated.  Only the imperforate set is shown above.  Both sets will be listed in the catalog attribute table below.

The new definitive Polish stamps shown above were issued on January 27, 1919.  These stamps were issued for use in Southern Poland, and they are denominated in "H" (Halerzy) and "K" (Korona)

These new definitive stamps were printed on regular, wove or ribbed paper, and they were issued both imperforate and perforated.  Only the imperforate set is shown above.  Both sets will be listed in the catalog attribute table below.

Later in 1919, new definitive Polish stamps, denominated in Fenigi and Marka, were printed on thin, laid paper.  These Polish stamps are perforated 9 to 14, including examples with compound perforations.

  • 25 F.  (1919 - Sc. #140) - Olive Green (not shown above).
  • 50 F.  (1919 - Sc. #141) - Blue Green (not shown above).
  • 01 M.  (1919 - Sc. #142) - Dark Gray.
  • 02 M.  (1919 - Sc. #143) - Bister Brown.
  • 03 M.  (1919 - Sc. #144) - Red Brown.
  • 05 M.  (1919 - Sc. #145) - Red Violet.
  • 06 M.  (1919 - Sc. #146) - Deep Rose.
  • 10 M.  (1919 - Sc. #147) - Brown Red.
  • 20 M.  (1919 - Sc. #148) - Gray Green.



Between 1920 and 1922, new Marka denominations were introduced, utilizing re-drawn types of 1919.  These re-drawn Polish stamps are printed on thin, laid or wove paper, and they are perforated 9 to 14 1/2.

This re-valued stamp (Sc. #153) was printed on thick, wove paper, which was perforated 10, 11 1/2, 10 x 11 1/2, or 11 1/2 x 10.
