The first Newfoundland stamps for the collection of postage due on underpaid letter mail were issued in 1939. They were discontinued in 1949, when Newfoundland and Labrador became a province of the Dominion of Canada.

The six Postage Due Newfoundland stamps shown above were issued between 1939 and 1949. These types were lithographed on unwatermarked paper.
Over the ten year period these stamps were in use, there were multiple printings, resulting in some significant perforation gauge varieties. The stamps shown above are all from the 1939 printing. All of the perforation varieties are indicated in the table below.

The 10 C. denomination was re-issued in 1949. These re-issued Newfoundland stamps are perforated 11 and they are printed on paper with WMK 241 - the Arms of Newfoundland sheet watermark.
The Newfoundland Dead Letter office issued the Official Seal shown above in 1905. This impressive looking seal features the portrait of King Edward VII.
Official Seals have generally been issued to prevent the unauthorized opening of important letter mail.
