Postage Due

New postage due stamps for the Austrian Empire post Offices in the Turkish Empire were issued between 1902 and 1910.  These stamps were not available for use for very long before the closure of the Austrian post offices in the Turkish Empire at the beginning of World War I.  As a result, it could be presumed that huge unused quantities of these stamps existed at the beginning of 1914.  This is very good for stamp collectors but very bad for postal history collectors.

Mint condition examples of these stamps, even never hinged ones, are  common and relatively inexpensive.  Used condition stamps are scarcer, but there are plenty of them around.  There are a lot of complete used condition sets of stamps out there .... just imagine all those covers, some of which would be priceless today, that the stamps were removed from!

I did German and English language searches for Austrian Empire postage due covers with these stamps, and I found NOTHING on the internet.  It can be presumed here that covers with these stamps are exceedingly rare.  All but the lowest, most commonly used denominations are not even priced on cover in the Michel catalog, and the low denominations are priced at around €1,000 or more!
