Postage Due  1931-1985

The first Postage Due French Andorra stamps were created, beginning in 1931, by overprinting the 1893-1941 and 1927-1931 Postage Due stamps of the Republic of France.  Postage Due stamps, specifically designed for French Andorra, were introduced in 1935.



The eight French Postage Due stamps shown above were overprinted for use as French Andorra Postage Due stamps during 1931.  They are all lithographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are perforated 14 x 13 1/2.

These French Postage Due stamps are all inscribed "Chiffre Taxe / à Percevoir", meaning "Tax / to be Collected".

Their Scott catalog attributes are as follows.

  • 05 C.  (1931 - Sc. #J1) - Blue.
  • 10 C.  (1931 - Sc. #J2) - Brown.
  • 30 C.  (1931 - Sc. #J3) - Rose Red.
  • 50 C.  (1931 - Sc. #J4) - Violet Brown.
  • 60 C.  (1931 - Sc. #J5) - Green.
  • 01 F.  (1931 - Sc. #J6) - Red Brown on Straw.

The seven French Postage Due stamps shown above were overprinted and / or revalued for use as French Andorra Postage Due stamps between 1931 and 1933.  They are all lithographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are perforated 14 x 13 1/2.

The five new Postage Due French Andorra stamps shown above were issued between 1935 and 1941.  They are all typographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are perforated 14 x 13 1/2.

  • 05 C.  (1937 - Sc. #J17) - Light Blue.
  • 10 C.  (1941 - Sc. #J18) - Brown.

  • 05 F.  (1941 - Sc. #J20) - Red Orange.



The eleven new Postage Due French Andorra stamps shown above were issued between 1943 and 1946.  They are all typographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are perforated 14 x 13 1/2.

The new common design features crossed sheathes of wheat.  These new Postage Due stamps are inscribed "CHIFFRE-TAXE", meaning roughly "LETTER-TAX".

  • 30 C.  (1943 - Sc. #J22) - Bright Red Violet.
  • 50 C.  (1943 - Sc. #J23) - Blue Green.

  • 01.50 F.  (1943 - Sc. #J25) - Rose Red.

The French Andorra Postage Due stamps of 1943 to 1946 were re-designed with new inscriptions between 1946 and 1953.  They are all shown above.

These re-designed Postage Due stamps are inscribed "TIMBRE-TAXE", meaning roughly "STAMP-TAX".

The four low-denomination Postage Due French Andorra stamps shown above were issued June 19, 1961

  • 0.20 C.  (1961 - Sc. #J44) - Olive.

The seven new French Andorra Postage Due stamps shown above were issued between 1964 and 1971.  They are all typographed on unwatermarked paper, and they are perforated 14 x 13 1/2.

The new designs feature flowering plants.
